Amphetamine belongs to the family of drugs called stimulants . It is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It helps increase attention and reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity in children over 6 years old, adolescents and adults who have been diagnosed with ADHD.

Other measures (e.g., psychological, educational, and social treatments) are used in conjunction with mixed amphetamine salts and are an integral part of the ADHD treatment program. Improvement in ADHD symptoms may be seen within 1 week of treatment with the medication.
